Today was mainly about the drive from Naples to Orlando, but we stopped
at the Lee County Manatee Park en route and were really glad we did.
This park is next to a power station which outputs water into a nearby estuary.
Because this water is slightly warmer than the estuary, in the winter months manatees
like to come here to enjoy the warmth.
The first wildlife we saw was a snake swimming in the water.
After that we saw what we expected to – manatees. And lots of them. And,
most exciting of all, we could hire kayaks and go and paddle in the water near them. We had a few scary
moments as they surfaced quite close to the boats and swam even closer,
including going underneath, but in the main this was a fantastic experience as
we got really close to them in their natural habitat.
After that we continued our longest journey to Orlando and we’ve now
settled in to our amazing suite. The kids have the West wing ) two twin rooms
and a bathroom while we have our own room and bathroom to the south! All very
nice, and a great base for the next two weeks of parks.
